Balance & Fall Prevention

Standing, walking, sports and other movement can be impaired by injuries, muscular neurological conditions or disease. Balance problems occur when or more of the following body systems (vision, inner ear, muscular system and one’s body position awareness “proprioception”) are not working properly. The cerebellum plays a key role in the coordination of our ability to balance.

Physical therapy for balance improvement and mobility includes gait training, balance training and/or combinations of treatments like aquatic therapy with flexibility, strengthening and posture exercises.

Following are examples of balance and gait issues where PT is recommended...

Neurological Conditions (brain injury, Stroke, MS, Parkinson’s)

Dizziness and Vertigo

Postural Dysfunction

Leg, Hip, Knee, Ankle and Foot Pain/Weakness

Spinal Cord Injury
